Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÐÓ°®°É is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÐÓ°®°É, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Roger and Sally Read, dedicated supporters of both ÐÓ°®°É (UA) and the greater Akron community, are committed to fostering growth in the region. Their passion for helping the Akron area revolves around retaining top talent at UA, laying the foundation for the community's prosperity.

In collaboration with Archbishop Hoban High School leadership, Roger and Sally Read established The Archbishop Hoban/University of Akron Scholars Program Scholarship in 2024. The main objective of the scholarship is to inspire more students from Archbishop Hoban to pursue their education at the University of Akron. The overarching goal is to motivate Archbishop Hoban students, particularly those who may not have initially considered UA, to choose it for their post-secondary education. Furthermore, the scholarship aspires to see its recipients, upon graduation from UA, contribute to the advancement of the greater Akron area by remaining within the community, thereby enhancing both knowledge and community bonds in Akron.
