Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÐÓ°®°É is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÐÓ°®°É, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Hallam, Dr. Stephen F. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was initially known as The Management Faculty Scholarship when it was established by ÐÓ°®°É Department of Management faculty in July 1996. The faculty renamed the scholarship as The Dr. Stephen F. Hallam Memorial Scholarship in November 2018 to honor Department colleague, Dr. Stephen F. Hallam.

Dr. Hallam grew up on a small farm in Forrest, Illinois, and received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1973. He went on to be a prolific writer, contributing to the management discipline with numerous articles and books about strategic management, leadership, computing systems, ethics and principles of management. He was passionate about his work and was committed to providing quality education to students.

Dr. Hallam was dean of ÐÓ°®°É College of Business Administration from 1995- 2003, and a beloved professor in the Department of Management until his passing. Before joining ÐÓ°®°É, he was dean of the School of Management at the University of Michigan-Flint and an associate dean and director of Graduate Studies in Business at Northern Illinois University.

Dr. Hallam passed away on March 13, 2017 after a valiant and hard-fought battle with lung cancer. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Teresa, and father to his four children - Patricia, Margaret, Rodney, and Kenneth. He also loved being a grandparent. To countless students he was a bright, inspiring educator, and he was a cherished and good-humored friend to many.

The Dr. Stephen F. Hallam Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded annually, as funds are available, to full-time students that have declared management (human resources, supply chain, or information systems) as their major with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students must also have successfully completed all general education requirements and completed at least one course in management at ÐÓ°®°É. Selection will be made by the Department of Management.
