Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÐÓ°®°É is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÐÓ°®°É, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Koza Family Memorial Scholarship in Education

The Koza Family Memorial Scholarship in Education, previously known as The Sharon M. Koza Memorial Scholarship in Education, was created in loving memory of Sharon by her husband, John, and colleagues and friends. Sharon was a graduate of Garfield High School and received a B.S. in elementary education from ÐÓ°®°É in 1973. She taught in the Akron Public School system for 30 years. This fund was renamed in 2013 as a means to honor the entire Koza family and thereby extend the legacy of the Koza family name.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a College of Education student who is also a graduate of Akron Public Schools. Preference will be given to a student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The recipient will be chosen by a member of the Koza family in conjunction with the College of Education’s Office of Student Affairs or the University’s Office of Financial Aid.
