Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, ÐÓ°®°É is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÐÓ°®°É, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Mack, Curtis L. Endowed Scholarship
Curtis L. Mack, (University of Akron School of Law '70), a now-retired expert in labor and employment law, established The Curtis L. Mack Endowed Scholarship in December 2020. He has done so after building a distinguished legal career through hard work and dedication to his craft, while breaking several barriers traditionally confronting African American attorneys. He was the first African American Cook Fellow at the University of Michigan Law School, the first African American tenure-track professor at the University of Florida Law School, and the first African American attorney to join the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Mack was later appointed as regional director of the NLRB's Atlanta region-the second African American to hold the position and the youngest in history. Post-NLRB, he entered private practice, opened his own firm, Mack and Bernstein, which, after 20 successful years, merged with McGuireWoods LLP, where he led the Atlanta, GA, labor and employment group.
Mr. Mack has been recognized for his advocacy of young African Americans and other individuals seeking better career and life opportunities, while supporting minority students pursuing law careers. Mr. Mack has received a wide range of professional accolades and distinctions for his dedication to the law and its uses in society, all honors well deserved.
The scholarship was revised in 2024 to update the candidate criteria.
