Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÐÓ°®°É is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÐÓ°®°É, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Fleming, Dr. V. Joanne Endowed Scholarship in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences

The Dr. V. Joanne Fleming Endowed Scholarship in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences was originally established in 2000 as The Dr. V. Joanne Fleming Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences. It was revised in 2007 when it merged with The Family and Consumer Sciences Education Scholarship Fund to form one scholarship and was revised again in 2022.

Dr. Fleming was a teacher-educator in ÐÓ°®°É's School of Family and Consumer Sciences for 31 years, also serving as director of the School from 1990 to June 2000. Dr. Fleming established the scholarship to provide financial assistance to students planning a career as a teacher.

Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled full-or part-time in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at ÐÓ°®°É are eligible to receive the scholarship. First preference will go to juniors or seniors pursuing a career in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. The recipient must have a strong academic record and financial need. Recipients are selected by the College of Health and Human Services.
