Kucheman and Varvaro Scholarship in Electrical Engineering
Kent M. Kucheman and Joe Varvaro, University of Akron electrical engineering (BSEE) graduates in the class of 1949, formed a highly respected electrical engineering consulting firm in 1953. For more than 35 years, they provided electrical design services and construction documents for hundreds of projects in Northeast Ohio, including many buildings on ÐÓ°®°É campus. Their reputation for quality design and business integrity earned their firm the respect of owners, architects, and contractors throughout the area. While Kucheman and Varvaro are now retired, their legacy and dedication to service continue at the present-day firm of PTA Engineering Inc., located at 275 Springside Drive, Suite 300, in Akron, Ohio. The firm's engineering staff consists principally of University of Akron BSEE graduates.
This scholarship is to be awarded to UA students in electrical engineering having a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Preference shall be given to a co-op student with an interest in consulting who intends to become licensed in the state of Ohio as a professional engineer upon graduation. Selection of the recipient shall be made by the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering in consultation with the director of engineering co-op. The recipient may be awarded the scholarship in succeeding years until graduation, providing his/her GPA remains above 3.00.
